Privacy
Website privacy statement.
What this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 2 September 2026.
Who this covers
This statement covers the website at www.heartofcanberra.com.au, operated by Heart of Canberra, the cardiology practice of Dr Kashif Kalam, Suite 8, 12 Napier Close, Deakin ACT 2600. It explains what the website itself collects. Your clinical records — what is discussed and recorded when you are seen as a patient — are handled under the practice privacy policy, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and the ACT Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997.
What the website collects
Usage analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and whether the site works on the devices people actually use. It records the pages you visit, the time and approximate (city-level) location of your visit, and the type of device and browser. Your IP address is truncated before it is stored. Google's advertising features are switched off: nothing this site collects is used to target advertising, on this site or elsewhere.
How pages are used
We use Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are scrolled and where visitors get stuck, as anonymous heat-maps and session recordings. Anything typed into a form on this website is masked before recording and is never captured by Clarity.
Cookies
The tools above set cookies so that a return visit is not counted as a new visitor. They are _ga and _ga_* (Google Analytics, up to two years) and _clck and _clsk (Clarity, up to one year). The website sets one further item in your browser's local storage if you choose “Reduce motion” on the home page, so the choice is remembered. No advertising cookies are set.
Booking, referral and registration forms
The forms on the Appointments, Refer and New patient registration pages compose an email that opens in your own mail program, or save your answers as a file on your own device for you to send or bring. What you type is not sent to, or stored by, this website — it goes directly from you to the practice's email address when you press send.
Where the online sending option is offered, the details you enter and any file you attach are sent to a secure service operated for the practice and hosted in Australia (Google Cloud, Sydney region). They are emailed to the practice; any stored file is deleted automatically after 90 days. Sending a referral this way is optional: referrals are equally welcome by HealthLink, fax or phone, as set out on the Refer page.
Hosting logs
Like almost every website, the hosting provider (Google Firebase Hosting) records each request — the address it came from, the time and the page — for security and reliability. These logs are held by the provider under its own retention rules and are not used to identify visitors.
Health information
Apart from what you choose to send through the forms, this website does not collect health information. Reading about a symptom or a test on this site is not recorded against you as a person.
Limiting what is collected
- Blocking or clearing cookies in your browser stops the analytics tools from recognising a return visit. Every page on this site works without cookies.
- Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site.
- You can use the site without submitting either form, and phone the rooms instead.
Access, correction and complaints
You may ask what personal information the practice holds about you, and ask for it to be corrected, by contacting the rooms on 02 6162 2741 or at admin@heartofcanberra.com.au. If you believe your privacy has been interfered with, please raise it with the practice first. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes
This statement is updated whenever the tools on the website change. The date at the top is the date of the current version.
