The cardiologist
Dr Kashif Kalam
Cardiologist · Multimodality cardiac imaging

Dr Kalam is a cardiologist practising in Deakin, with post-specialist training across echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.
That combination shapes how he works. A cardiologist who reports across several imaging modalities is choosing between them rather than defaulting to one, and the question he is asking of each is different: what the structure looks like, what the arteries look like, what the muscle itself is doing.
Alongside general cardiology, his particular interests span coronary artery disease, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, cardiac rhythm problems, cardiomyopathies and valvular heart disease.
Clinical interests
- Ischaemic heart disease / coronary artery disease
- Heart failure
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Hypertension
- Cardiac rhythm problems
- Cardiac imaging — echocardiography and stress echo
- Cardiomyopathies
- Pacemaker interrogation
- Valvular heart disease
Technology reveals. Clinical judgement decides. Imaging is most useful when it answers the right clinical question, and choosing that question is the work of the consultation.
